Adalah sebuah tata kalimat yang kita gunakan untuk membicarakan tentang suatu kejadian yang sedang berlangsung di waktu lampau, ada kejadian lain yang terjadi.

        1.     Untuk mengekspresikan peristiwa yang berlangsung dimasa lampau sebelum aksi peristiwa lainnya terjadi

              - When the guest came, we had been waiting for an hour

              - He had been standing in front of the door for thirty minutes before it was opened

      2.     Untuk memberitahukan berapa lama suatu peristiwa terjadi atau sampai waktu tertentu di masa lampau

               - She was annoyed since she had been waiting  for 2 hours on the bus station

               - By the time the teacher came, the students had been reading a half part of text

               - I had been working with my computer all day, and all i wanted to do was eat some chocolate
